Nevada uses Pacific Time and observes daylight saving time: UTC−7 in summer and UTC−8 in winter. The one exception is the city of West Wendover, on the Utah border, which uses Mountain Time.
West Wendover
West Wendover sits right on the Utah line, next to Wendover, Utah. The federal time zone rules place it in the Mountain Time zone, so it keeps the same time as its Utah neighbour and is 1 hour ahead of the rest of Nevada all year.
Time zones in bordering states
Nevada sits on the eastern edge of the Pacific Time zone, so its eastern borders face Mountain Time.

No daylight saving time. The Navajo Nation in Arizona, which does observe it, isn't drawn separately.County split between two zones; the exact line isn't drawn
- California and Oregon: same time all along the border.
- Idaho and Utah: both use Mountain Time, so Nevada is 1 hour behind them, except in West Wendover, which matches Utah.
- Arizona: most of Arizona stays on standard time all year. Nevada matches it in summer and is 1 hour behind it in winter.
What permanent time would mean for Nevada
Ending clock changes would mean keeping one time all year: either permanent daylight time or permanent standard time. Here’s how each would shift sunrise and sunset in Las Vegas.
Nevada and permanent daylight time
Nevada has not enacted a law to adopt permanent daylight time; it is not among the 19 states the Congressional Research Service lists as having done so.
Lawmakers have leaned toward standard time: in 2025, two bills to keep standard time year-round (Assembly Bill 81 and Senate Bill 94) did not pass, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
Any switch to permanent daylight time would need Congress to act first. The U.S. House passed the Sunshine Protection Act in July 2026, and it is now with the Senate.
